Water Street Design Associates just finished another magnificent project (in a long line of magnificent projects). Once a working farm, this estate on Fishers Island Sound was to be revitalized with a master plan which would include siting a new home capitalizing on spectacular water views. The site also had many natural features to consider when locating and orienting the pool, spa, pool house, garden rooms, orchard, and vegetable garden. These included farm walls, tidal marsh, competing water views, and two mature specimen beech trees to be preserved. After building above flood elevation, the result was a terraced design that worked well with existing topography and created multiple exterior spaces for dining, casual seating, swimming, and lounging, all at different levels giving each space its own unique setting and views. Michael and McKinley Associates have been traveling the coast these days, working on waterfront homes in Jamestown and Portsmouth, Rhode Island.
The firm's design for a modern shingle-style home in Portsmouth frames sweeping views across the Sakonnet River to Tiverton and down to the Sakonnet Lighthouse. A second more traditional stone and shingle home is also on the boards in Portsmouth. At a large coastal home in Jamestown, the McKinley team has been working on an expansive interior design project including the selection of all finishes, furniture, window treatments, and lighting. The design of a new pool, poolscape, and outdoor kitchen are currently underway as well.

Nina Roefaro Lomeo and her family moved to the Borough during the pandemic where she and her husband opened Repertoire Stonington, a gift shop and design showroom on Water Street. But Nina’s not just a shop owner. She’s a fine artist as well as a certified interior designer with specialized training in classical architecture. She preserves the art of hand drawings to help her clients quickly understand concepts and make confident design decisions.
She has a full roster of ongoing projects, including a collaboration with Julia M Leeming Architect where she’s assisting clients with exterior and interior color and material selections, millwork, lighting, and decor on new residential construction.

Lindsey Coral Harper has brought a lot of color to the Borough since moving here from New York a while back. She’s opened Coral, a home decor and lifestyle destination at 77 Main Street, recently featured in New England Home magazine. And despite her hectic schedule, can be seen walking her sweet pup GoGo around town. She’s done some serious work lately — she participated in the prestigious Kips Bay Decorator Show House New York and Rooms with a View, a charitable design benefit hosted by the Southport Congregational Church in Southport, Connecticut last year. Among other things, she’s currently working on a house in Darien, CT, and an epic project in Watch Hill (RI).
